Airbnb Parking Instructions Template: Clear Examples for Every Setup

By GuestMeadow · Published August 30, 2026 · Practical guidance for vacation-rental hosts

Good parking instructions answer the questions a guest has while they are still in the car: where exactly do I go, which space is mine, how many vehicles can fit, what should I avoid, and what is the backup plan if the obvious spot is unavailable?

Use the templates below for Airbnb, Vrbo, direct bookings, cabins, condos, beach houses, apartments, and other vacation rentals. Replace every bracketed detail with property-specific information and remove anything that does not apply. Parking guidance should match the listing and any building, permit, HOA, fire-lane, snow, or local street restrictions that actually govern the property.

Complete vacation-rental parking instructions template

This version works well in a guest guide or arrival section because it covers the permanent information a guest may need before and during the stay.

Full parking instructions
Where to park Park in [EXACT LOCATION]. The easiest way to identify it is [LANDMARK / SPACE NUMBER / DRIVEWAY SIDE / GARAGE BAY]. Vehicle limit Parking is available for up to [NUMBER] vehicles. [DESCRIBE WHETHER VEHICLES PARK SIDE BY SIDE OR TANDEM]. Do not park Please do not park in [NEIGHBOR SPACE / FIRE LANE / GRASS / ROAD SHOULDER / TURNAROUND / OTHER RESTRICTED AREA]. Access or permit [NO PERMIT NEEDED / DISPLAY PERMIT FROM LOCATION / USE ASSIGNED SPACE NUMBER]. [PUT CHANGING GATE OR GARAGE CREDENTIALS IN THE CURRENT ARRIVAL MESSAGE, NOT HERE]. Overflow plan If you have more than [NUMBER] vehicles, use [APPROVED OVERFLOW LOCATION AND ANY HOURS OR RESTRICTIONS]. Do not use unapproved neighboring spaces. Questions If the correct space is blocked or unavailable when you arrive, contact [HOST / MANAGER] at [CONTACT METHOD] before parking somewhere else.

Short parking instructions for a check-in message

A pre-arrival message should be shorter than the permanent guide. Give the guest the decision they need to make on arrival, then link to the full guide if there are more details.

Short arrival message
Parking: use [EXACT LOCATION / SPACE NUMBER] for up to [NUMBER] vehicles. Please do not park in [RESTRICTED AREA]. If the space is blocked when you arrive, message us at [CONTACT METHOD] before choosing another spot. Full parking details: [GUEST GUIDE LINK].

For the rest of the arrival sequence, use the Airbnb check-in instructions template so parking, directions, entry, and troubleshooting arrive in a logical order.

Driveway parking template

Driveway instructions should explain where vehicles fit and whether guests need to preserve a turnaround, garage door, owner space, septic area, or shared access lane.

Private driveway example
Park on the [LEFT / RIGHT] side of the driveway, beginning beside [LANDMARK]. The driveway fits [NUMBER] vehicles [SIDE BY SIDE / IN TANDEM]. Keep the [GARAGE DOOR / TURNAROUND / SHARED LANE] clear at all times. Do not park on the grass or along [RESTRICTED EDGE].

Street parking template

Street parking needs more than "free street parking." State which side or block is normally allowed and call out restrictions that can realistically affect a stay, such as permits, street sweeping, overnight limits, event rules, or snow emergencies.

Street parking example
Street parking is normally available on [STREET / SIDE OF STREET / BLOCK]. Follow all posted signs. Do not park in front of driveways, hydrants, loading zones, or marked no-parking areas. [PERMIT / OVERNIGHT / STREET-SWEEPING / EVENT-DAY RULE]. If temporary signs conflict with these instructions, follow the posted street restriction.

Assigned condo or apartment parking template

Shared lots create the most avoidable disputes when instructions rely on landmarks instead of exact space numbers. If the property has an assigned stall, repeat the number and describe where guests can confirm it.

Assigned-space example
Your assigned parking space is [SPACE NUMBER], located [LOCATION DESCRIPTION]. Confirm the number painted on [CURB / WALL / GROUND] before leaving the vehicle. Do not use spaces marked [RESERVED / OWNER / OTHER UNIT / ACCESSIBLE, UNLESS AUTHORIZED]. Additional vehicles should use [APPROVED GUEST OR OFF-SITE LOCATION].

Garage and gated parking template

Garage instructions should include physical limits as well as access steps. Height limits matter for SUVs, roof boxes, trucks, and vans. If the gate code changes by reservation, send it through the stay-specific arrival channel rather than placing it in a permanent public-facing guide.

Garage example
Enter the garage from [STREET / ENTRANCE]. Maximum vehicle height is [HEIGHT]. Park in [SPACE / BAY]. The garage access credential is provided in your current check-in message. Keep the garage remote or pass in [LOCATION] during the stay and return it to [LOCATION] before checkout.

Parking permit template

Tell guests where the permit comes from, where it must be displayed, and what to do before departure. Avoid inventing towing or fine amounts unless they are part of the actual property or local rule.

Permit example
A parking permit is required in [AREA]. Your permit is [PLACED AT LOCATION / ISSUED DIGITALLY / AVAILABLE FROM STAFF]. Display it [EXACT LOCATION ON VEHICLE] whenever the vehicle is parked. Return the physical permit to [LOCATION] before checkout. Vehicles without the required permit may be subject to the posted property or local enforcement rules.

Multiple vehicles and overflow parking

If the property cannot hold the reservation's likely vehicle count, solve that before arrival. Guests need an approved alternative, not a warning that extra cars "may be difficult." Include the real walking distance or access hours when off-site parking is used.

Overflow example
The property has space for [NUMBER] vehicles. Additional vehicles should park at [APPROVED LOCATION], about [DISTANCE / WALKING TIME] away. [HOURS / PERMIT / PAYMENT DETAILS]. Please unload at [SAFE LOCATION] first if needed, then move the extra vehicle to overflow parking.

EV charging instructions

If EV charging is available, identify the actual charger and operating expectations. If it is not offered, say so rather than letting guests guess whether a household or exterior outlet is suitable.

EV charging example
EV charging is [AVAILABLE / NOT PROVIDED]. Use only [CHARGER LOCATION AND TYPE] for vehicle charging. Do not use other exterior or garage outlets or run extension cords across walkways. [ACCESS / PAYMENT / PARKING LIMIT DETAILS, IF APPLICABLE].

Winter and snow parking instructions

Snow can turn a clear summer parking plan into a blocked plow route or inaccessible driveway. If winter operations change where guests park, make that seasonal rule visible before arrival.

Winter parking example
During snow or ice conditions, park [WINTER LOCATION] so [PLOW / SHARED DRIVE / ROAD ACCESS] remains clear. Do not park [RESTRICTED WINTER AREA]. If a snow emergency or temporary local restriction is posted, follow the posted rule and contact [HOST / MANAGER] if you need an alternate space.

Accessibility, unloading, and difficult arrivals

If the easiest unloading point is different from the overnight parking location, say so. Describe actual slopes, stairs, distances, surfaces, or elevator access when those details can help a guest choose the right arrival plan. Do not label a space accessible unless it meets the applicable requirements.

Unloading example
For easier unloading, stop briefly at [LOCATION], where the entrance is about [DISTANCE] away over [LEVEL / SLOPED / GRAVEL / PAVED] ground. After unloading, move the vehicle to [OVERNIGHT PARKING LOCATION]. [STAIRS / ELEVATOR / CURB / ACCESS NOTE THAT ACTUALLY APPLIES].

When a photo or map is better than more text

Add one annotated photo when the space is visually confusing: a forked driveway, several nearly identical condo stalls, an alley entrance, or a garage reached from a different street. A map pin is useful when the parking entrance has a different address from the rental itself.

Keep the written instruction too. Photos can be hard to interpret at night, map pins can be slightly off, and guests should still be able to verify the correct location from a space number or landmark.

What belongs in a permanent guide vs. a stay-specific message

Permanent parking information includes the normal space, vehicle limit, standing restrictions, garage height, permit process, overflow location, and contact route. Reservation-specific or changing credentials should stay in the current arrival message or another controlled channel.

Keep these stay-specific
• Temporary gate, garage, or keypad codes. • A permit number issued only for the current reservation. • A temporary alternate space assigned because the normal space is unavailable. • One-time construction, event, snow, or maintenance instructions that will expire after the stay.

This is the same principle used in the guest message templates: timely information belongs in timely messages, while stable property information should remain easy to reopen throughout the stay.

Parking instructions vs. parking house rules

Parking instructions explain how to arrive successfully. Parking house rules define boundaries during the stay. The two can overlap, but they should not contradict each other.

Simple split
Instruction: Park in spaces 14 and 15 beside the east stairwell. Rule: Do not use neighboring numbered spaces or block the fire lane. Instruction: Overflow parking is in the public lot two blocks north. Rule: The driveway may hold no more than two guest vehicles overnight.

For the wider rules set, see the vacation-rental house rules template.

Parking instructions quality checklist

  • Name the exact place guests should park instead of saying only that parking is available
  • State the maximum number of vehicles covered by the reservation
  • Identify spaces, sides of the driveway, garage bays, or street segments that are off limits
  • Explain permits, gate access, height limits, and towing rules only when they actually apply
  • Give a safe overflow plan when extra vehicles cannot fit at the property
  • Add winter, street-sweeping, event-day, or seasonal restrictions when they can change where guests park
  • Use one useful photo or map pin when written directions are not enough
  • Keep changing access codes and reservation-specific credentials out of permanently shared material
  • Make the parking wording agree with the listing, check-in message, house rules, and current guest guide
