Check-in

Check-in from 4:00 PM

When you arrive, look for the green mailbox and turn onto the gravel drive. The black lockbox is mounted to the cedar post at the top of the dock path, beside the parking pad. Use the brass key for the mudroom door, then return the key to the lockbox so nobody gets stranded after a swim.

The last 200 feet of the driveway are single-lane. After dark, the motion light over the mudroom may take a second to wake up. The lakeside slider locks from inside only, so use the mudroom door whenever the house is empty.

Check-out

Check-out by 10:00 AM

Start the dishwasher, bag kitchen trash, leave used towels in the downstairs tub, and close the patio umbrella. If you used the canoe, pull it above the grass line and flip it upside down before rain. Make sure the woodstove is completely cold, close the flue, lock the mudroom door, and return the brass key to the dock-path lockbox.

Parking

Park on the gravel pad beside the woodshed. Three cars fit comfortably if you pull in nose-first. Please keep the narrow lane beside the shed clear - that is the canoe and emergency-access path to the water.

House rules & amenities

House rules

Maximum 6 overnight guests. No smoking or parties. Quiet hours are 10 PM–8 AM - sound carries straight across the lake. No glass on the dock or shoreline. Children 12 and under must wear a life jacket on the dock and in any boat. No diving from the dock; the water is shallow near shore. Use the fire pit only when there is no local burn restriction, and drown the coals before bed.

Amenities

Private dock, canoe, two single kayaks, adult and youth life jackets, hammock, propane grill, stone fire pit, screened porch, woodstove, washer/dryer, smart TV, board games, puzzles, binoculars, picnic table, and a small reading loft overlooking the lake.

Property instructions

The canoe paddles and life jackets hang inside the woodshed; kayak paddles are clipped under the screened-porch bench. Before lighting the woodstove, move the flue lever fully open and confirm you can feel draft at the door. Split firewood is stacked under the shed roof. The hammock clips stay on the two marked birches - please unclip the fabric during heavy rain.

Appliances

Grill: the connected propane tank is under the left shelf and a labeled spare is under the screened-porch bench. Coffee: the drip machine takes the basket filters in the drawer below it; local beans are in the blue tin. Dishwasher pods are under the sink. The washer is high-efficiency, so one detergent pod is plenty.

Dock & water rules

The orange ring buoy stays on the dock rail - never move it for games or photos. Life jackets must be zipped or buckled before anyone launches the canoe or kayaks. Keep boats tied to the inside cleats so they do not swing into the swimming side of the dock. At night, bring paddles back to the shed and leave the dock light on until everyone is inside.

Bugs, loons & sunset

Mosquitoes are busiest right after sunset; bug spray is in the screened-porch basket. Please keep porch doors pulled shut so moths do not fill the house. You will often hear loons after dark - enjoy them from the dock or porch, but never approach nesting birds or try to feed wildlife. The best sunset seat is the hammock, not the dock, because the pines frame the western sky.

Host contact

Mara & Ben (Hosts)

Text is fastest for ordinary questions. Call if anything involves the dock, water, power, heat, or a lockout. We keep our phones on overnight for urgent property issues.

Emergency information

For any life-threatening emergency, call 911 first. If someone falls in the water, throw the orange ring buoy from the dock and keep eyes on them; the long aluminum reach pole is clipped under the dock stairs. Do not enter cold or rough water unless it is safe to do so. The nearest full-service emergency department is Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Local guide

Host favorites

  • Pine Tree Frosty at golden hour

Our ritual: grab a cone from Pine Tree Frosty, then get back to the house before sunset. The hammock catches the last light through the pines about 20 minutes before the sun drops behind the ridge.

Restaurants

  • Parkside & Main

Easygoing dinner in the village when nobody wants to cook. We usually go for burgers or seafood, then walk Main Street before heading back to the lake.

Coffee

  • Classic Provisions

Our breakfast stop in town: espresso, breakfast paninis, fresh bread, and the pastry case that usually ruins any plan to 'just grab coffee.'

Groceries

  • Rangeley IGA

Best stop for a full grocery run. Pick up ice, grill food, and breakfast supplies here before driving back out to the house.

Attractions

  • Height of Land

A classic Rangeley overlook with a huge sweep of lakes and mountains. Go on a clear afternoon; the pull-off is quick, but the view never feels like a quick stop.

Beaches

  • Rangeley Lake State Park

A good change of scenery when you want a real swim beach, picnic tables, and more shoreline to explore than the house dock gives you.

Activities

  • Bald Mountain Trail

A proper morning hike with a big payoff. Bring water, wear shoes with grip, and save it for a dry day - the rocky sections get slick after rain.

Nightlife

  • Moose Alley

Bowling, drinks, and casual food under one roof. This is our rainy-night backup when the cards and board games at the house have run their course.
