Airbnb Cleaning Checklist for a Consistent Vacation-Rental Turnover
By GuestMeadow · Published September 22, 2026 · Practical guidance for vacation-rental hosts
A turnover checklist should make the next stay reliably ready, not simply prove that someone visited the property. Assign clear steps, separate cleaning from inspection, and record problems before the next guest arrives.
Start with safety and lost items
Before cleaning, check for urgent damage, active leaks, broken glass, unusual odors, missing safety equipment, and items left by the previous guest. Photograph material damage according to the property's documented process before moving or repairing it.
Use appropriate protective equipment and follow product labels. Never combine cleaning chemicals. Keep chemicals away from food, linens, and guest toiletries, and store them securely when the turnover is complete.
Clean room by room
Work in a consistent order so tasks are not skipped. In bedrooms, strip and inspect linens, dust reachable surfaces, clean mirrors, check under furniture, remake beds, and confirm lights and charging points. In bathrooms, disinfect high-touch surfaces, remove hair, clean fixtures, replace towels, restock approved supplies, and confirm drainage.
In the kitchen, wash and return dishes, clean appliances and counters, empty the refrigerator according to policy, replace liners, check basic supplies, and inspect for pests. Finish common areas with floors, furniture, remotes, switches, doors, and visible outdoor spaces.
Separate restocking from cleaning
Create a par level for toilet paper, soap, trash bags, coffee supplies, dishwasher products, linens, and any provided consumables. Restocking from memory creates inconsistent stays and makes shortages hard to diagnose.
Record what was used and what remains low. If different cleaners serve the property, use the same names, quantities, storage locations, and photo expectations for every turnover.
- Required quantity for each supply
- Storage location
- Minimum reorder level
- Approved replacement brand or specification
- Person responsible for purchasing
Finish with a guest-ready inspection
The final inspection should be performed from the arriving guest's perspective. Open the entry, check temperature and odor, test essential lights, confirm beds and bathrooms, inspect the kitchen, verify Wi-Fi instructions, and make sure the correct parking and entry information is ready.
Document completion and unresolved issues. A checklist cannot replace professional judgment, local health requirements, manufacturer instructions, or qualified repair work, but it can make routine quality much more consistent.
